SPANISH PUBLISHERS EMPHASIZE INTERNET

The I National Congress of Reading, celebrated last week in Cáceres close with a clear idea by the publishers. It is necessary to adapt themselves to the times: the new readers and the new readings. "Both symbols of the new times are the remote control and Google", affirmed Emiliano Martinez, president of the Federation of Unions of Publishers and of the Santillana Group. Next autumn will appear in Internet a new webpage with the objective to make more accessible more than 300,000 titles in Spanish publishers catalogues.

This first contest about the reading problematic, the situation of editorials and the nowadays readers has let to develop series of discussions that have facilitated to experts to arrive at some conclusions. The publishers and the Foundation Germán Sanchez Ruipérez have decided to bet the adaptation to the new times. It will be realized in a new webpage www.libro-es.com, visible in Internet next autumn, and it will become an essential tool for the book diffusion. "It will be the motor and nucleus of a very big literary webpage in which it will be adding information about works and other aspects of his contents", explains Emiliano Martínez, president of the Federation of Publishers Unions and of the Santillana Group.

On the other hand, the university professor of Contemporary History of the University Carlos III Rodríguez de las Heras assures that there is no rupture between the old and current readers. Those of before can adapt with natural manner to the new technologies. "the Internet display will not end with the book culture. I am seeing that we are going to live an splendor age of reading and writing".

In the workshop Lectura y medios de comunicación , (Reading and mass media), where more than 400 participants took part in, it was discussed about the mass media role to spread culture and promote reading. Many speakers agreed in the little influence that have mass media nowadays promoting reading. For the director of the Cervantes Institute, César Antonio Molina, the most important is that the cultural industry has to produce contents and not limit to reproduce information already created. Quality and amount, are both basic ingredients for the development of the culture, according to Molina.
